Hipposideros ater ater
The adult body weight ranges between 4.5 to 5.5 grams. The fur is dark grey on the dorsal side and greyish-white on the ventral side. The specimens of Hipposideros ater ater were collected from the hollows in the walls of wells, among grass reeds, burrows underneath the grass reeds, underneath the roots of banyan trees and dark, cool dungeons where logs are stacked. The species have also been caught from toilet rooms as well. The presence of these bats in the well could be detected by the characteristic smell emanating from such places. These bats are delicate and need high humidity for their survival.
